What is STrapping?

Strapping is a process used in packaging and shipping to secure and stabilize packages during handling, storage, and transport. It involves using straps or bands made of various materials, such as plastic, steel, or cord, to wrap around and hold the package together.

Strapping is often used to reinforce boxes, hold items together, or keep them in place within a larger container. It can be applied manually or with the use of specialized machines.

Strapping is an important part of the packaging and shipping process because it helps to prevent damage to the contents of the package and ensure that they reach their destination in good condition.

Polypropylene Strapping

Polypropylene strapping (also known as poly strapping or PP strapping) is made from a plastic polymer called polypropylene, a strong, lightweight, and flexible material that is resistant to moisture and weathering, making it an excellent choice for use in outdoor or damp environments.

Poly strapping is also resistant to chemicals and UV radiation, which further increases its durability and longevity. It is commonly used in the packaging and shipping industry to secure and stabilize packages during handling, storage, and transport. It is often used as an alternative to steel strapping because it is less expensive, easier to work with, and safer to handle.

Polypropylene (PP) strapping is available in various widths, thicknesses, and tensile strengths to fit diverse packaging and shipping requirements.

Steel Strapping

Steel strapping is a strong and durable type of strapping that is resistant to stretching, tearing, and breaking, making it an excellent choice for use in heavy-duty packaging and shipping applications.

This type of strap is typically used to secure and stabilize large, heavy, or irregularly shaped packages during handling, storage, and transport. It is often used in industries such as construction, manufacturing, and transportation.

Steel strapping is applied with a range of tools, including hand-held tensioners, sealers, and cutters. While it can be more expensive and difficult to work with than other types of strapping materials, such as polypropylene or cord, it offers the highest level of security and stability for packages that require extra support during handling and transport.

Cord Strapping

Cord strap is made from a variety of natural or synthetic fibers, such as jute, sisal, polypropylene, or nylon. It is a flexible and resilient material that is resistant to stretching and breaking, making it an excellent choice for use in packaging and shipping applications.

It is particularly well-suited for use with irregularly shaped or fragile items because it is soft and gentle on the surface of the package. Cord strapping can be less expensive and easier to apply than other types of strapping materials, such as steel or polypropylene.

Depending on the material utilized, it can also more environmentally friendly, as some options are biodegradable and can be recycled. However, there may be trade-offs on security and stability compared to other types of strapping materials, particularly when transporting heavy or unsteady loads.

Polyester Strapping

Polyester strapping is made from a material called polyethylene terephthalate (PET), which is strong, durable, and flexible, making it resistant to stretching, breaking, and moisture.

These characteristics make PET strapping a good choice for a variety of packaging and shipping applications. Polyester strapping is particularly well-suited for use with heavy or irregularly shaped items because it is able to withstand high levels of stress and strain.

Polyester strapping can be more expensive and more difficult to utilize than other types of strapping materials, such as polypropylene or cord. However, it offers a high level of security and stability for packages that require extra support.  It is also fully recyclable, making it an eco-friendly option for packaging and shipping needs.
