What is Carton Sealing TApe?
Carton sealing tape (also known as box-sealing tape or packing tape) is a pressure-sensitive adhesive tape used in packaging or shipping workflows to properly close corrugated boxes to help protect products during shipping or storage.
Carton Sealing Tape Elements
Carton sealing tape is typically made by coating a thin, flexible backing material with a pressure-sensitive adhesive. The backing material is usually made of a synthetic polymer, such as polypropylene or polyethylene, and is chosen for its strength and flexibility. The adhesive is a special type of glue that is activated by pressure and forms a strong bond when applied to a surface.
To make the tape, the adhesive is applied to the backing material in a thin, even layer using a variety of techniques, such as coating, extrusion, or lamination. The adhesive may be formulated with various additives, such as plasticizers, UV stabilizers, and antioxidants, to improve its performance and durability.
Common Sizes of Carton Sealing Tape

Types of Carton Sealing Tape
Acrylic Carton Sealing Tape (also known as pressure-sensitive tape, packing tape, clear packaging tape) is best suited for reliable, all-temperature box sealing performance where resistance to aging, weathering, UV light and yellowing are important. They also provide excellent clarity, high shear strength to prevent “flagging”, superior quick stick performance and controlled unwind to facilitate dispensing on manual or automatic case sealing machines.
With hot melt carton sealing tapes, a thermoplastic adhesive, also known as hot glue, provides a significantly higher adhesion in comparison to an acrylic tape. This style of tape can be used either manually (with a tape gun) or through autuomated application via a carton sealing machine.
Natural Rubber Carton Sealing Tape
Consider a natural rubber carton sealing tape when you need a tape that quickly forms a strong bond, in situations when case sealing on an irregular surfaces, in environments with high humidity, or in extreme temperatures of 0-150 degrees.
